How Humans Should Frame Morality

Image
Image Source:  Washington University in St. Louis Morality Morality is the idea that specific behavior is “right” or “wrong”. Without morality, all behavior is equally permissible and there is no government. Without government, there is no order or protection and humanity lives in uncertainty. Therefore, morality is inextricable from people's well-being, and it is the government’s duty to uphold morality in its decision-making.  The Problem with Moral Frameworks Morality may be a flawed abstract construct, but that is precisely why politicians need to understand it. By understanding morality, people can reconcile its subjective nature with the objective facts of politics to benefit people. It is then through benefitting others in a moral environment that humanity lives best. The problem is that there are many moral frameworks whose conflicting paradigms seemingly trivialize any deeper inquiry into morality. For example, if consequentialist frameworks evaluate morality through the

Why Inverse Solipsism is a Remarkable Metaphysical Framework

Image Source:  Reddit Solipsism  Solipsism is the idea that one can only know themself to exist. It is founded on the idea that reality can only be validated through one’s consciousness.  The contradiction of solipsism is that for one’s mind to exist, one must first be born to parents who cannot know their child exists because of solipsism. Therefore, if one can only know themself to exist, no one else knows that person to exist and reality is the mutually uncertain existences of individuals. Furthermore, if solipsism was logically valid, it would entail nihilism because one’s surroundings are meaningless if they are uncertain. Solipsism also promotes egoism, hindering progress in society.  Given that solipsism is both logically and morally flawed, people should live by inverse solipsism. Inverse solipsism is the idea that one can never truly know themselves to exist, but can clarify their reality in interactions with other conscious entities. For example, say that a person is in a r

How Apathy is Inhibiting Change

Image Source:  GrammarTOP Apathy  Apathy is the greatest inefficacy in human advancement. At its worst, apathy brings psychopaths to murder, and at its best, it is a reminder of lost potential. According to Merriam Webster , apathy is a “lack of interest or concern.” Apathy includes both an antipathy towards others and slothful indifference to improving human lives. Although many people condemn the atrocities committed by apathy, they often overlook apathy’s multifaceted nature. Apathy can be classified into egoistic apathy, unambitious apathy, hedonistic apathy, and nihilistic apathy. Humanity needs to address these forms of apathy because they represent a lost opportunity for critical developments in society.  Egoistic Apathy Egoistic apathy is the lack of interest or concern for others. At its extreme, egoistic apathy is a defining trait of antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy. In a broader context, ignoring the cries of the homeless, littering, and refusing to reach out

Why We Should Exist For Utopian Altruism

Image Source:  Psychiatric Times What is the meaning of life? Countless people have pondered the inquiry, but many are either perplexed by the seeming inscrutability of life or complacently settle on a preference. Can there actually be a "best" meaning of life? The Question is Open-Ended Existential purpose is an interpretive construct as opposed to an ascertainable concept. Therefore, it is impossible to definitively answer the question, because existential philosophies can never be empirically proven. This dichotomy between constructed beliefs and factual concepts may appear to discredit morality as an existential principle, but morality, as a subjective social construct, is devoid of both veracity and incredulity. It is because morality is an abstract social construct that, notwithstanding the subjectivity of moral existential philosophy, one can always posit a moral existential philosophy as the ethical basis for decision-making.  Morality Matters Existential philosophy o
